A church in Nashville recently tweeted that the Bible isn’t “self-interpreting.” Now, what do they mean? Well, Christians have always believed that the best commentary on the Bible is, well, the Bible—and that we can read the Bible and understand it for ourselves.

But churches like this congregation believe the Bible is just the work of man, and so it doesn’t really matter what the Bible actually says—we control what it means.

But the Bible is the very Word of God. It’s how God’s chosen to reveal himself to us. And he didn’t give us a Bible that can just mean whatever we want. He gave us the Bible so we can know him and know how to be saved.
