This week we’ve seen that God defined marriage as between just one man and one woman. But what about the examples of polygamy we see in the Old Testament?

Well, at the very beginning, God created one man and one woman … and brought them together in marriage. And Jesus himself reaffirmed this definition of marriage.

Now, we do see examples of polygamy in the Bible. But the Bible’s a book of history. It records what happened in the past. But we’re never told that polygamy replaces God’s design for one man for one woman. And polygamy in the Bible always ends badly with jealousy and bitterness.

God’s “very good” design was given in the beginning—one man, for one woman.
