Was there a canopy of water vapor that surrounded the earth before the flood?

Well, some Christians take the phrase “waters above the expanse” from Genesis chapter one and interpret them as a canopy. But that’s not directly stated in the text. We’re just told there are waters above. The canopy idea is an interpretation of the text.

Now, we should always remember that the text is inerrant, inspired by God. But our interpretations are fallible.

So what else could the waters have been? Well, they could’ve been clouds … or the water in outer space. These answers make sense. You see, later in Scripture, we’re told the waters are still there.

So let’s remember: the Bible is the ultimate authority—not models.
