Pure and Undefiled Religion

In the New Testament, James writes, “Religion that is pure and undefiled is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction.”

You know, the early church took this definition seriously. They became well known for caring for orphans. They rescued babies who were left outside to die and raised them as family members. Roman citizens mocked them because orphans were usually just left to die—or were raised as slaves. But the church recognized that God calls us to love and care for all those he’s made in his image—all humans. So the early church loved and cared for orphans.

God’s word to us hasn’t changed. We need to be pro-life beyond just standing against abortion.
