In Genesis 1, we’re told that mankind was created to rule over God’s creation. All through Scripture, we see God’s loving care toward what he’s made, including the plants and animals.
The testimony of Scripture is that we’re stewards of creation. He’s entrusted it to us, as his image bearers, and we need to take that responsibility seriously.
Some Christians claim it doesn’t matter what we do to the earth because Jesus is returning and creating a new one anyway. But Jesus told us “to do business” until he comes—and this includes continuing the stewardship mandate he gave us.
People should always come first, Christians should be leaders in caring for the environment!
