Yesterday we learned the earth didn’t always have the seven continents we see today. In the past, there was just one land mass.

So when did it break apart?

Well, Genesis describes a world-shaping catastrophe: the global flood. The Bible says the fountains of the great deep opened up. This would’ve started catastrophic geological processes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. It also would’ve broken the continent into plates … and started the movement of these plates.

Today, the continental plates drift apart very slowly. But during Noah’s flood, these plates moved rapidly.

So, the flood explains this movement.
