God and Suffering

How can we answer someone who is hurting when he asks, “Why would a good God create death and suffering?”

Well, in Genesis we read that God created everything “very good.” There was no pain, suffering, death, or disease. God gave Adam and Eve one command . . . and told them that the penalty for disobedience was death. They chose to disobey, and death and suffering entered into God’s perfect creation. Because of their sin, and our sin since then, the world groans in pain.

But the good news is we have hope in Jesus. He took our penalty—death—upon Himself when He died on the Cross. But He rose from the dead, conquering death, and offers eternal life to all who believe.

Now that is true hope!
