All this week we have seen how the Old Testament is foundational to the New Testament . . . and to why Jesus came to earth.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they brought the penalty for sin—death—into God’s perfect creation. The Bible makes it clear that we sin and die today because of Adam’s actions.

But many Christians believe that Adam was just a mythical figure or a metaphor. But without a historical Adam, the gospel falls apart.

If there was already death before sin or if there was no real Adam who sinned, why did Jesus have to come and die? Death wouldn’t be the penalty for sin if it already existed . . . or if there was no Adam to sin!

You can’t separate the Bible’s history from the gospel!
