You have probably heard the story that as an unborn baby grows, it goes through supposed evolutionary stages. Now, this idea has been debunked for decades, but it is still taught in textbooks and science classes!

The examples given are the supposed “gill slits, yolk sac, and tail” in human embryos. But the “gill slits” are just throat pouches that will eventually form features such as the inner ears. The “yolk sac” isn’t like egg yolk. It serves as the first blood cells for the embryo. And the “tail” isn’t a tail. It is the coccyx, where all the muscles will be attached, so you can stand and walk.

We do not go through evolutionary stages in our mother’s womb.
