Sometimes Christians are tempted to avoid using the Bible when debating an unbeliever. After all, the unbeliever doesn’t believe the Bible, so should we even use it?

Well, we can’t give up the foundation for our thinking as Christians. Giving it up is like going into battle without any armor or weapons! It is foolish! The other person won’t give up their starting point, so don’t give up yours.

And remember, it is the Word of God that is “powerful and effective”—not ultimately any argument. God’s Word convicts of sin, so use the Bible when you are witnessing.

Always start with God’s Word. It is through His revelation to us that we know the truth about God, our sin condition, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
