Whenever I post about transgender issues on social media, I inevitably receive comments sneeringly asking why I care so much about what other people do with their own bodies. It doesn’t impact me personally, they argue, so why do I care? Reportedly, those were the same sorts of sentiments shared in a recent Will Ferrel Netflix documentary on his transgender friend.
So why do we at Answers in Genesis care so much that we continue to speak on the topic, have a book on identity, and are crafting a new biblical identity exhibit for the Creation Museum?
Well, we at Answers in Genesis care about the issue for many reasons, but today I’ll just give three for why I believe every Christian must care about this issue.
Biblical authority. Of course, this one comes first—we ultimately care about the transgender issue because we care about the Word of God. The truth that God created us male and female is a foundational biblical truth, grounded in God’s good design in creation. And because we care about biblical truth, we care about how our culture (and the church!) views gender and sexuality.
Christians are commanded to be salt and light. Salt preserves from moral decay, and light pierces the darkness of sin. So we must speak up in order to do what we’re commanded to do as Christians.
Transgenderism hurts others. This issue is not really just about what one person chooses to do with his or her own body. Transgenderism hurts others, especially women and children.
It hurts the children who buy into its lies due to the brainwashing they’re inundated with each day. So many get sucked into a false belief that results in them doing irreparable harm to their bodies before they are even old enough to fully understand the consequences.
It hurts the women and children forced to share their private spaces—places like locker rooms, restrooms, shelters, prisons, and changing rooms—with grown men. Not only is it dangerous physically, but it’s harmful to their sense of security and innocence.
It hurts the “trans widows” who lose their husbands (or husbands their wives or parents their sons or daughters) to transgenderism, as well as the children who lose fathers or mothers, brothers or sisters, to a false identity.
It hurts women’s opportunities because things like women’s sports are sacrificed on the altar of men’s subjective feelings as men compete against women and strip them of their opportunities, titles, and records. Thankfully, we are seeing at least some pushback against this. For example, four colleges have recently forfeited volleyball matches against San Jose State, whose women’s volleyball team is (at the time of the writing of the source article) undefeated, 7–0. Why? Well, they have a male player on their team—a man who identifies as a woman. Not only are these teams having to forfeit (probably for the safety of their players), but he has also taken a spot away from a female college player who otherwise would’ve gotten to be on the team.
And it’s women so much more than men that it hurts in this way!
No, transgenderism isn’t just about one person’s choices—it has massive cultural consequences!
We care about others. I’ll wrap up with this one—we care about the transgender issue because we care about each of the men and women who have been lied to by our culture and are following their deceptive, sinful hearts down a road the Bible says will lead to death and is a snare of the devil.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12)
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:24–26)
We want to see each person come to a saving knowledge of Christ and find their identity in him and in his creation design of male and female, made in his image to glorify him.
No matter how much the culture tries to silence us or shame us by telling us we have no right to care or bring biblical truth to bear on this issue, we will continue to speak because we care about the Word of God and about all those hurt in so many ways by transgender ideology.
And we care so greatly because:
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9–11)

In the UK and Alberta, Canada, rulings have been passed down to protect children who believe they are transgender from taking drugs and undergoing surgery to irrevocably change their bodies.
