Well, I Just Hit a Big Milestone

Well, I recently hit a milestone. According to documentation I have (a birth certificate), I was born on October 20 in the city of Cairns in 1951! That means, just a little while ago, I reached three-fourths of a century! Ugh, that sounds really old.

Sometimes young people smile when I tell them:

  • I used to travel into the city of Brisbane, Australia, by steam train.
  • I saw the moon landing live on black-and-white television on July 20, 1969.
  • My father had a car that needed a crank handle to start it!
  • There were no smart phones and no internet, email, or texting until 40 or so years after I was born.

But I was also there to see the formation of Answers in Genesis and the opening of the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. And how thrilling it is to know God has used the ministry of Answers in Genesis to impact millions and millions of people with God’s Word and the gospel—the most important message ever.

When I posted about my birthday on my Facebook, I received hundreds of comments wishing me a happy birthday, with many sharing personal testimonies about the impact the ministry had on them. These were so encouraging to me, and I thought I’d share just a handful of them with you:

One of the blessings of being three-fourths of a century old is that God has allowed me to see the generational impact that this ministry has had. Often during meet and greets, men and women who are now parents tell me how their parents raised them on AiG materials and now they’re doing the same. What a blessing! I also hear testimonies of how the Lord brought people to salvation or strengthened their faith. Praise the Lord!

If you’d like to support what the Lord is doing through AiG, I encourage you to check out our exciting end-of-year campaign with our largest gift match in the history of the ministry. You can find all the details on our giving page.

So now that I’ve reached 75, some people have asked me if I’m going to retire.

Well, while the Lord gives me health and strength, I will continue doing what God has called me to do—I’ve adopted the Moses plan of retirement (check that out if you don’t know what I mean).

So it’s onward (and eventually upward) to do the business of the King until He returns:

Engage in business until I come back. (Luke 19:13)

Our kids and grandkids put on a special celebration for me for my birthday. Enjoy this photo showing my one candle, which equals 75 years, and my dessert: a really fluffy waffle (my mother’s recipe) with ice cream and my mother’s “secret” caramel sauce.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
