About 62% of US adults identify as Christian. But does claiming you’re a Christian on a survey, or even making public statements about being a Christian, mean that you are a Christian? What exactly is a Christian?
Well, consider these statements from Jesus:
Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12–13)
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)
I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)
According to Jesus, a true Christian is someone who has been born again, has received Christ and believed in His name, abides in Christ, has entered through the door, and has come to the Father through Him.
In other words, being a Christian is not just saying you are a Christian—the Bible describes it as a new birth. You actually become a new creation, passing from death to life.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
I recently examined what the Scriptures say and applied the truth of God’s Word to three prominent figures in our culture today who all claim to be Christians—and then had a challenge for everyone watching my video. I encourage you to check it out:
I pray that you take my challenge seriously and consider what it means to be a true Christian (a biblical Christian) and what that truth means for you personally. Are you truly born again?
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
