I am so burdened by Christian leaders who compromise on the clear truths of Genesis despite oftentimes being very brilliant scholars who love the Lord. It’s so disheartening to listen to those who, though they boldly defend the truth of Scripture in areas like Christ’s resurrection, allow man’s ideas to determine their interpretations of Genesis, therefore undermining the authority of Scripture. One such man is apologist Frank Turek.
Recently, I saw a video clip of Frank Turek, a very popular Christian apologist, responding to a question about Genesis and the age of the earth. In the clip, he claims we can’t know how long ago “in the beginning” (Genesis 1:1) was and quotes Dr. John Lennox in saying that “the Bible leaves the age of the earth indeterminate.” Is this true?
In this video, I answer all of Frank’s objections—including a claim he makes about me—starting with the Bible. I encourage you to watch it and share it with others.
It’s putting man, not God, as the authority.
Frank Turek is a popular and influential apologist, and he does some great work defending Scripture and sharing the gospel. I don’t dispute that. But he is undermining the authority of the Word of God and encouraging people to doubt the clarity of Scripture when it comes to his answers on Genesis. And that’s dangerous. What he’s saying is that man’s interpretations of the world around us are the authority over God’s clear, infallible Word. It’s putting man, not God, as the authority.
My challenge to Frank Turek, and every other Christian, is the same: Stop adding man’s ideas into God’s Word. Start with God’s Word first and allow it to be your authority.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
