The Bible tells us there is the broad way and the narrow way. The broad way is the world. We all live in the world, so we are living in the broad way. The narrow way is within the broad way but leading in the opposite direction.
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matthew 7:13–14)
The forces pulling against those on the narrow way are enormous, and it will take a lot of hard work and diligence to keep pulling along the narrow way—and to bring along the younger generations (your children, grandkids, and other children God has placed in your sphere of influence).
Christians need to be even more vigilant and diligent to do all we can to bring our families along on the narrow way, praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) to enable us to do it.
The forces on the broad way seem to strengthen every day. This means Christians need to be even more vigilant and diligent to do all we can to bring our families along on the narrow way, praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) to enable us to do it (in other words, recognizing man’s responsibility and God’s sovereignty in salvation and discipleship).
I would challenge you now to stop and consider: How is your family journey going, Dad and Mom? What road are you on? How hard are you working and how much are you praying so you and your family can be traveling on the narrow road?
Remember, there is only one way—one narrow road.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Not many are on the narrow way, but please do all you can to bring your family along on this most vital road ever!
One way you can be “vigilant and diligent” with training your children in the narrow way is to get into God’s Word individually and together as a family. Nothing—and I do mean nothing—can replace time spent in God’s Word and in prayer. It’s absolutely vital for a spiritually healthy family!
A great way to get you and your children into God’s Word together is with an eight-week Summer Study with our friends at the National Bible Bee. Together you’ll learn how to unlock the Scriptures and memorize God’s Word through reading, application, and activities. Perfect for ages 5–18, the whole family can be engaged in studying God’s Word together. I encourage you to visit the National Bible Bee website to register and learn more.
Yes, the forces of evil are trying to drag our children down the broad way, but praise God that he’s given us his Word, his Spirit, and direct access to his throne as we pull along the narrow way!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
