Move over Stone Age—it’s time for the Bronze Age? This is the premise of a new claymation movie coming February 2018 from the makers of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit. According to the IMDb page for this new film, Early Man is “set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth” and features a tribe of Stone Age people fighting an evil Bronze Age lord to save their home.

Stone Age to Bronze Age?

It’s obvious from the title of the film—Early Man—that it will be full of evolutionary content and storytelling. The whole idea of mankind transitioning from the primitive Stone Age to the Bronze Age comes from an evolutionary view of mankind. In this belief, man started out primitive and slowly gained intelligence, enabling him to make discoveries and move from hunting and gathering into agriculture and then into cities. But this view of history is in direct opposition to God’s Word!

Intelligent from the Beginning!

In the biblical view, man was created intelligent from the very beginning. Adam was immediately given the job of naming the animals (Genesis 2:19), tending to the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:15), and having dominion over God’s creation (Genesis 1:28). This requires intelligence! And the early chapters of Genesis record Adam and Eve’s children living in cities (Genesis 4:17), tending flocks and herds, and growing produce (Genesis 4:2). Within a few generations, people were competent at forging metals and playing musical instruments (Genesis 4:21–22). Man was intelligent from the very beginning!

Do Stone Tools Equal Primitive Man?

So where do evolutionists get this idea of a Stone Age slowly morphing into a Bronze Age? It flows from an evolutionary interpretation of archaeology. You see, in the archaeological record we find more “primitive” stone tools buried under tools forged from metals. Evolutionists interpret this as a transition as mankind became more intelligent. But this erroneous interpretation ignores the history revealed in God’s Word.

Where do evolutionists get this idea of a Stone Age slowly morphing into a Bronze Age?

Genesis tells us that, because of man’s wickedness, God judged the world with a global Flood. This Flood destroyed the world that once was, and reduced the human population to just eight people. About 150 years after the Flood, mankind once again rebelled against God, so God divided their languages, forcing them to spread out and fill the earth (Genesis 11). This broke up the collective body of human knowledge and forced people to become hunter-gatherers as they traveled to new places and began to establish complex civilizations yet again.

During this period, the post-Flood Ice Age was occurring, and, for many of these migrating people groups, the climate was very harsh. People made tools from what materials were available and found shelter where they could (in some instances in caves, which make excellent shelters from the elements). But this wasn’t because they were primitive—it’s because they were using what was available to them to survive in a harsh world, just as humans living in harsh climates today do!

Some ancient peoples made jewelry, wore make-up, even had hot water in their caves, made and played musical instruments, tended wounds and dental problems, and more! They were anything but primitive!

A Springboard for the Gospel

Early Man shows an evolutionary interpretation of the evidence and makes it into a fun story for children. Sadly, this film will help to indoctrinate many more children with the idea of human evolution over millions of years, convincing them they are nothing more than highly evolved animals. But we can use films like these as an opportunity to proclaim the truth of God’s Word and the true history of mankind to children and adults alike!

We are not descended from some primitive ape-like ancestor. We were created in God’s image and are all descended from the first human couple, Adam and Eve. Because we’re all descendants of Adam, we all share his sin nature and will suffer the same penalty for our sin—death (1 Corinthians 15:22)! That’s why Jesus Christ, the God-man, stepped into history, died on the Cross—taking our penalty of death—and rose from the dead, conquering sin and death. He now offers eternal life to all who will put their faith and trust in him (Romans 10:9).

I encourage you to be ready to use things in the culture to teach truth and point others toward the gospel of Jesus Christ.
