According to an article:
When British comedians Pippa Evans and Sanderson Jones decided last winter they liked the atmosphere and fellowship of a church, but they did not believe in God, they started what apparently was, at the time, the first church for atheists. So why would atheists do such a thing? If there’s no God, what’s the point? If when you die that’s the end of you and you won’t ever know you even existed, then why bother with starting a church? Why would atheists like these be so active in such a meaningless project? They say it’s been so successful they now are launching a world tour to grow their godless church.
According to a report in the Guardian, they will be starting their promo tour in Edinburgh Oct. 22, then traveling quickly through Glasgow, Brighton, Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Leeds and Manchester. . . . [Then in November they go] to Dublin on the first, followed by a quick trip . . . to New York, Harvard, Washington, Chicago, San Diego, Silicon Valley, then on to Vancouver, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Well, the Bible gives us the answer. Here are two reasons why these atheists are actively promoting an atheist church:
1. “Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them” (Romans 1:19). God’s Word makes it plain that the knowledge of God is written on our hearts—every human being knows there is a God and every human being is “without excuse” (Romans 1:20). So there are no true atheists—they know there is a God and that’s why they want a system that copies the Christian worship.
2. They “suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18 ). God’s Word tells us that those who reject God “suppress the truth”—they actively suppress what they know to be true. Because they know there is a God, they have to work hard to try to actively suppress the truth. It’s like they hold their hands on their ears and yell: “No, I refuse to listen to what God is telling me.” And so they actively preach their atheism to try to block the truth they willing reject. So sad.
