The Kingdom of This World

In His apocalyptic account of the coming destruction of the temple, coupled with His return in power and great glory to the earth, our Lord Jesus Christ made a surprising statement: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). The propagation of this “gospel of the kingdom” is set against the backdrop of global cataclysm.

It’s the good with the bad and the ugly, but there is never a question of the outcome. In fact, all four of the gospel writers unanimously make reference to this worldwide enterprise, proclaiming the gospel to the Gentiles and redemption to all nations even in the face of persecution, lawlessness, and many turning away from the truth.

Consider this statement by secular heavyweight biologist Jerry Coyne from the University of Chicago. He said, “Evolution is unique among the sciences, because it strikes people in the solar plexus of their faith, directly.” We must respond in the affirmative. He’s so very right. It is sad that an evolutionist can see and articulate this so very clearly and yet hundreds of pastors occupying pulpits all across the world are blind leaders of the blind.

Only the gospel, as it is nourished by and rooted in the Genesis account, will provide the antidote so necessary to speak to the hearts of men, globally. It is the hope of true faith which takes up the sword of the Spirit and echoes the cry, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever” (Revelation 11:15, ESV). Jesus is Lord over all of creation. Everything was made by Him and for Him, and the church must return to this message.
