Waking to the Sea of Galilee

on October 19, 2010

Imagine waking up in the morning, pulling back the shades, and looking out at the panorama of the Sea of Galilee. Each of our AiG tour members had that joy today. God has given us 90 wonderful traveling companions to share the thrills and chills of being in this most honored land.

Today our bus journey took us to Hazor (Joshua 11:10), Capernaum (the home of Peter), Caesarea Philippi (where Peter was asked about Christ), the Mount of Beatitudes (Matthew 5), and finally for an unforgettable sunset boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.

No one could have dreamed of a more blessed day as we read Scripture, prayed, preached, and were taught the Word of God on the very sites where these historic events took place. Dr. Snelling is “wowing” our travelers with his teaching from the geological aspects of this land.

As we boarded the boat, the crew hoisted the American flag and played the U.S. national anthem, and then the Israeli flag with their anthem. It was a moving experience for all of us. However, we have four Australians with us, so we got an Australian flag and we honored their country (the home of Ken Ham) with the Australian cheer: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi!” Sadly, we did not have a flag for our two Irish travelers. Tomorrow we will have to sing “Danny Boy.”

We went today to the top of the Golan Heights and very close to the Syrian and Lebanese boarders. It is so interesting to be walking in the places of many modern-day headlines.

We leave early tomorrow for the lowest spot on earth---the Dead Sea. Check back with us.

Best to all from Israel,
