At the 2015 Answers for Women conference, I was pleased to have Rose Colón join us for Embrace: Compassionate Answers in a Fallen World. She spoke on the topic of sexual sin within marriage and shared her own personal testimony showing how she and her husband found answers and hope in God’s Word and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Rose (and her husband Jeff) are certified counselors and direct the Lighthouse Biblical Counseling Center in Williamstown, KY (very close to Ark Encounter!). I asked Rose to speak next year on the topic of pornography and this is what she had to say about her upcoming presentation.
There is so much confusion in our present day regarding God’s sacred design for marriage and relationships. Everywhere we turn it seems as if our world has completely forgotten that God’s blueprint regarding these issues has not changed with our modern times. Biblical history has proven that when a society rejects God’s composition for sexuality and chooses not to pattern their lives according to His Word, we will reap the consequences of those choices.
What role has pornography played in distorting God’s original intent for intimacy within the confines of marriage? How does sexual sin effect the marriage bed? What are some of the end results of giving into illicit physical desires? How is our youth being desensitized to God honoring relationships by this industry? Why are 80% of visitors to porn sites willing to spend so much of their time tracking down erotica at the risk of losing their real life relationships and jobs?
The scriptures tell us in Proverbs 6:27-29, “Can a man (or woman) take fire to his (her) bosom, and his (her) clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his (her) feet not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.” Over the past 25 years of counseling, I have seen this truth come to pass in the lives of many over and over again. While some might say, “What is the big deal with viewing a little porn here or there?”, pornography and sexual sin has devastating effects on the church, the family, our children, and a society as a whole. We must not allow the world’s godless mindset in these matters lead the church into a subtle deception.
In view of the fact that God has designed us with a desire for sexual pleasure, how can a follower of Christ safe guard their heart from being influenced from this world’s way of thinking? What is God’s instruction to a believer in such matters? Should we take Him seriously? Is it still possible for one to return to God’s sacred design for sexuality?
Come and explore the scriptures with me during this conference. Together we will learn from God’s Word how we can avoid the alluring snare of the porn industry. God’s purpose for His people is to be His image bearers whether you are single or married. My friend, embracing God’s ancient paths for His sacred design for sexuality is still relevant for our generation. As the prophet Isaiah declared in Chapter 5:20, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Beloved, God will not be mocked; His purpose for our sexuality is to be sacred, pure and holy.
1 Corinthians 10:13–14 tells us, “No temptation has overtaken you except such is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.”
I’m so looking forward to Rose’s equipping and encouraging thoughts at Answers for Women 2019 as she shares biblical truth to help us counter the world’s lies.
