Anatomy and Physiology of the Crucifixion

Have you ever thought about what Jesus went through physically as He suffered on the cross? To be honest, I had never given it much thought until, as a college student, my anatomy and physiology professor shared with the class what Jesus likely suffered as He hung on the cross. It gave me a much greater appreciation of the price Jesus paid for all of us. When I became a college professor and taught an anatomy and physiology course, I determined from the very beginning of the spring semester that I would give a presentation on the topic of Jesus’s crucifixion to coincide with Easter. I was amazed at just how many articles had been written on the topic in reputable medical journals in addition to the many details given in Scripture about Jesus’s crucifixion.

It was a very difficult presentation to give but I felt important for two reasons. I wanted my students to apply what they had learned throughout the year in a very practical way and I wanted my students to more fully understand what Jesus did for them. After coming to Answers in Genesis, I was able to further develop my presentation on the crucifixion and help people understand that the history presented in Genesis provides the foundation for why Jesus had to suffer and die for us, and give a clear Gospel presentation. It has now become tradition for me to give this presentation several times during the Easter season in the Creation Museum. I hope that you can join us for one of the presentation times. You will walk away with a renewed appreciation for Jesus’s ultimate sacrifice.
