The Tireless Dragon of Old

One of the most terrifying aspects of the dragon’s attack is that even victims that survive an assault will often succumb to it later on. Two glands in their lower jaws secrete several different toxic proteins. These proteins lower blood pressure, cause muscle paralysis, inhibit blood clotting, and induce hypothermia. This often leads to shock of the envenomated, which can negatively affect motor function to the point they are too exhausted to move and/or lose consciousness.

Komodos will tirelessly pursue their prey, so often it doesn’t matter how quick and agile a creature may be. Once wounded, creatures far nimbler may speed ahead, use up their energy, and stop for a rest thinking they are safe, only to glance back and see the relentless dragon in the distance slowly closing in for the kill. Chillingly, Komodo Dragons have been known to leisurely follow wounded prey at a steady pace for weeks. Eventually, it is only a matter of time before the creature collapses, too weak to fight back and, horrifyingly, is often eaten alive.

The Great Dragon, Deceiver of the Whole World

As terrifying as this modern-day beast is, the Bible describes another centuries-old serpent far more potent and deadly, one that’s in control of a vicious army of evil subordinates dedicated to the systematic destruction of every man, woman, and child that’s ever been born.

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9)

The Devil, Satan, is the deceiver of the world. He knows that God reveals himself primarily through his Word (the Bible), that the Word of God is the truth, and that truth sets men free. So, his ultimate purpose is to convince mankind that the God of the Bible doesn’t exist and that his Word can’t be trusted. And although he has used different variations of this ploy over and over again throughout history, it’s basically the same one that he used to tempt Eve. That tactic is to ask, “Did God actually say?” to get people to question and distrust the Word of God.

The Apostle Paul was very aware of this strategy and warned the Corinthian Church that they might be misled in the exact same way when he said,

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3)

This of course is a direct reference to Scripture’s first record of an attack on the authority of God’s Word, when Satan deceived Eve in the garden of Eden at the beginning of creation.

Rapid Results

If successful, this attack manifests itself by causing doubt in the recipient, weakening the ability of believers to stand on God’s Word, defend it properly, and proclaim it boldly. Like the modern-day serpents of Indonesia, it paralyzes its victims, poisons them with confusion, leaves them weak and unable to properly defend themselves.

Today, there is a very specific concept stalking the corridors of many Christian churches, schools, homes, and minds. It promotes widespread doubt and disbelief and is rabidly endorsed by the education systems and media throughout Western society. That concept is the story of evolution.

Running Won’t Help

If the comparison of being pursued by a tireless predator seems hyperbolic, consider the cold hard truths of today. Who in Christendom would argue the fact that statistics show Western churches weakening and bleeding out their youth at alarming rates? Statistics from various studies say that, on average, 70% of children from Christian homes who attend state schools abandon the faith. Are we really that naïve not to know why?

Unfortunately, yes! Many Christians still seem oblivious to how militant secularist, Marxist, and atheist groups have subverted public education and influenced the last several generations of students within it under a constant barrage of anti-God, humanistic teaching. All of their ideas have been grounded in naturalistic, evolutionary concepts that have steadily unraveled the teaching of God’s Word, crippling the Church.

For years, many Christian leaders simply ignored the origins debate, thinking it’s just not worth “batting the beehive” over. Some consider it divisive or simply a “side issue,” perhaps hoping it would somehow “go away.” But that hasn’t worked.

While most churches plan their next “retreat,” atheists plan their next attack and carefully strategize on how to take more and more ground in the culture war raging all around us. They take advantage of the public school system, summer camps, TV shows, video games, social media, public libraries, institutes of higher education, and political platforms, pumping out books and movies for all ages that constantly promote evolutionary ideas.

The Most Vulnerable

Most younger Christians can never run long or hard enough to avoid the indoctrinating effect of evolutionary teaching. They are backed into a corner, whether they know it or not, and can no longer avoid the fight. Most of them are unassuming and largely defenseless, unaware they are even being targeted. With the majority of them having been educated in state schools and without training in biblical apologetics, by age 13 the majority of them are already bitten. The poison of doubt regarding biblical authority is already coursing through them.

For those who make it further, many run into the welcoming arms of a church or Bible college they believe will provide them sanctuary from the corrosive effects of naturalism, only to find that many of the leaders within are already under its influence as well, simply reinforcing and furthering their doubts. This makes them lethargic and ineffective in fending off the attacks of secularists and answering the questions of the day.

“What about dinosaurs? Radiometric dating proves millions of years. Evolution is a fact. There’s no proof God exists. Science has disproven the Bible. If God is so loving, why is there death and suffering?”

These are objections that almost all of these young people will be forced to deal with at some point: there is no escape. And adults are just young people that grew older, which is why everyone seems to have the same questions. So, it doesn’t matter if you want to ignore them. The tireless dragon of evolutionary teaching continues lurching towards you . . . .

If Western Christians don’t act quickly and strategically, “Christianity could become extinct here in less than two generations.”1 Survey after survey, including those done by “respected pollster George Barna [has found] that six out of ten 20-somethings who were involved in a church during their teen years are already gone,”2 in terms that mean they no longer consider Christianity important or “real” and are simply waiting to leave home and discontinue church attendance. Those who continue on that enter into higher education will almost certainly fall away.

The hypocrisy of those who claim to believe the Bible—just not as it’s plainly written—is not lost on young people. They clearly see through it, and when they do, they abandon trust in God’s Word, leave the church and their “faith” behind.3

When the Church disconnected the Bible from the real world and left discussions about dinosaurs, fossils, or the age of the earth up to the secular schools and colleges, they signaled that the Bible is just some sort of “pie in the sky” theoretical book that concentrates on spiritual and moral issues, but not one grounded in reality.4

But the Bible is “a real book connected to the real world.”5 It provides the true history of the entire cosmos and humanity, including aspects relating to geology, biology, anthropology, astronomy, and sociology far better than the story of evolution supposedly occurring over millions of years ever could. The commonly touted “disconnect between faith and fact is an illusion created by an overwhelming misinterpretation of the facts”6 we see in the present combined with creative evolutionary storytelling. However, “observational science [rightly interpreted] confirms the Bible’s history and, thus, also the Christian doctrines (like the gospel) that are based in that history.”7

Turn and Fight!

1 Peter 5:8 reminds believers,

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

There’s no doubt we are in a spiritual battle, and the enemy—the story of evolution—has been revealed. Are you tired of not having answers?
