How to Choose a VBS Curriculum

With so many different VBS programs on the market, sometimes VBS directors struggle to know which one to pick. Do you decide by which theme resonates with you? Just go with whatever you’ve always used or what the church across town didn’t pick? Does it even matter (spoiler—yes, it really does!)?

During VBS week, you have five days to plant seeds of truth in the hearts of children, many of whom don’t normally walk through your church doors on a Sunday morning. As you select which VBS program to use, ask yourself:

  • Is this rich with Scripture, the “two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12) God uses to change lives, or does it just have a couple of verses added onto the theme?
  • Does it engage with the culture, answering the questions kids are asking today?
  • Does it clearly present the full gospel, not merely a vague message like “God loves you”?
Kids need “meat” from God’s Word, and they need the full gospel.

With only five opportunities to make an impact, there’s no time for “fluff”—kids need “meat” from God’s Word, and they need the full gospel. That’s what changes hearts and lives. So yes, the curriculum you choose really matters!

Then, on the practical side, ask yourself:

  • Is this curriculum easy to use and well laid out?
  • Does it have digital tools to make my job easier?
  • What kind of fun extras, decorations, and themed elements are there?

Together, a rich, biblically sound curriculum that’s easy to use will make your VBS the best ever.

And we believe Answers VBS is the choice that combines deep biblical truth, apologetics, an evangelistic focus, with ease of use, great digital tools, and a lot of fun! But don’t take our word for it—listen to these VBS directors who shared why they love and trust Answers VBS:

We made the switch several years ago just because of the Bible truths that are in each and every lesson. Since switching, we have had more children give their hearts to Christ.
We switched to AiG this year after using a different company for many years. We are extremely satisfied with AiG. There is a lot of information to pull from, the kids enjoyed it, and most importantly, they heard the gospel multiple times during the week. We had multiple children and one caregiver approach our pastor to talk about salvation. That has never happened during our VBS before.
You won’t regret switching . . . there is no comparison to the curriculum. Powerful message of God’s Word each night in all activities.
I have been a VBS teacher for about 20+ years. This is the first year my church used AiG, and let me tell you, it is SO MUCH more teacher-friendly!! I’m so thankful to be using AiG in the future.
Our VBS wrapped up this week, and I must say, this was the best VBS we have ever had. This was our first year using AiG, but it will NOT be our last! The depth of this curriculum is unparalleled, and the kids were just soaking it in like sponges! Thank you, AiG, for such a superior product!

For many churches, VBS week is their biggest evangelistic outreach of the year. Don’t settle for a “fluffy” curriculum—use this opportunity to give kids rich truths from God’s Word that connect with the culture they’re growing up in.
