During your lifetime, you’ll do something five hundred million times. You’ll blink your eyes! Blinking clears away dust and bacteria, collected by an antibacterial fluid you produce.

You use six tiny muscles to move your eyes in all directions in perfect coordination. Muscles also allow your retina to adjust for a range of brightness, from ten billion to one.

Oh, and your retinas are covered in blood vessels, but your brain just ignores them so you can still see.

And don’t forget that each eye has a blind spot—but it’s in a different place in each eye, so it doesn’t actually affect your vision!

As the psalmist says, “the seeing eye . . . the Lord has made.”
