Joy to the World!

Most of us know the classic Christmas carols by heart—but: have you ever stopped and really thought about what you’re singing?

Let’s think about “Joy to the World.” This song celebrates the joy that the Lord has come and that the Savior reigns. It’s a reference to both Jesus’ incarnation as a baby, and his eternal role as King, reigning over the kingdoms of the earth. Wow—what a truth!

The carol also highlights how nature joins in on the celebration of Jesus. This reminds me of verses like, “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice … let the field exult, and everything in it!”
