Should We “Offend Not”?

To many people, the worst thing we can do is offend someone else. Instead, they say, we should try to make people feel good about themselves and their choices. But should that be our focus?

Well, the book of Colossians tells us to, “let your speech always be gracious so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” But sometimes the gracious answer a person really needs sounds offensive to them!

You see, the message that we’re all sinners, unable to save ourselves, is yes: offensive. People don’t want to hear it—but it’s the truth. And, until they believe it, they won’t cry out to Jesus to save them.

So, yes, sometimes we need to offend people.
