Should We “Judge Not”?

Which Scripture verse is quoted out of context the most? I would argue it might be Jesus’ words of “judge not.”

You see, many people will say, “Jesus said, ‘Judge not,’ so how dare you judge me!”

But we always need to read verses within their context and when you do that, you’ll see Jesus was warning us not to judge others in a hypocritical manner. Jesus later tells us to “judge with a righteous judgment.”

This means we first examine ourselves and then make judgments against the authority of God’s Word. We don’t judge according to our own opinions, but according to God’s eternal Word. It’s the ultimate standard for our thinking.
