This is Ken Ham, author of the new devotional commentary for the family, Creation to Babel.
All this week we’re learning that radiometric dating is built on layers of unprovable assumptions. So, it’s not “proof” of long ages.
Here’s what I mean. This process assumes there hasn’t been any contamination of the rocks. So, if you believe these rocks are millions of years old, you have to assume that millions of years of natural processes haven’t added—or removed—any of the parent or daughter atoms. That’s a big assumption and it’s a bad one too!
You see, fifty-year-old lava flows in New Zealand gave wildly wrong radiometric ages, including one date of three point nine billion years! Clearly these assumptions are wrong!
