Every Christian knows Jesus is essential to the gospel. After all, the good news is all about Jesus’ death and resurrection!

But the “good news” means nothing without the bad news, and that means a historical Adam is also essential to the gospel.

You see, we sin because of Adam and we die because the consequence for sin is death. It’s because of Adam’s sin that we needed a Savior to die as a sacrifice for our sin. That’s why Jesus had to die.

So, no literal Adam . . . no literal gospel!

Sadly, many Christians dismiss Adam as a mythical character. But if there was no Adam, Jesus came to die for a mythical problem, and we only have a mythical hope.
