Throughout church history, many scholars wrote chronological histories of the world, starting with God’s Word.
They’ve added up the genealogies in Genesis and looked at biblical dates and clues to determine a historical chronology. And they’ve always come up with roughly the same numbers—about two thousand years from Adam to Abraham and about two thousand years from Abraham to Christ. Then they added on the years since Christ lived to their time to get an age for the earth. It was always thousands of years.
The idea that earth is millions of years old is a new idea in the church. It doesn’t come from Scripture—it comes from man’s ideas.
