This week we’ve learned that the apostles and early church leaders believed Genesis was history. Well, so did those after them!

Many medieval theologians interpreted Genesis literally, believing God created just a few thousand years ago. After them came the Reformers who largely taught God created in six, twenty-four-hour days only a few thousand years ago.

Now, some theologians did interpret Genesis allegorically, believing God created in an instant. But no one added long ages into Scripture until quite recently because long ages don’t come from Scripture. They come from things outside Scripture and then forced onto the text.
