This week we’ve seen that the style of the book of Genesis, the words of Jesus, and the writers of the New Testament all agree: Genesis is history.
But why does this even matter?
Well, because every biblical doctrine of theology is grounded in the history in Genesis. Think about it . . . if Adam wasn’t historical, there’s no such thing as original sin . . . and death isn’t really the punishment for sin. So why did Jesus need to come and die? Yes, the gospel is grounded in a literal Genesis!
It’s also an issue of biblical authority. Will we allow God and his Word to be the authority in all areas . . . or will we put ourselves as the authority over God’s Word?
