When was Jesus born? Obviously, we commemorate the incarnation of Christ as the babe in the manger just two days from now on December twenty-fifth. But was that the actual date of Jesus’ birth?
Well, the short answer is . . . we don’t know! No one does! Some have argued that it can’t be the twenty-fifth because shepherds wouldn’t be out in the fields in winter, but we can’t know that for sure. Others try and use biblical data to come up with a date, but they involve some big assumptions.
The Bible doesn’t give us the date for Christ’s birth. So, obviously, it isn’t something we need to know. So is it okay to celebrate Christ this December? That’s for tomorrow!
