This is Ken Ham, hoping you’ll visit our life-size Noah’s Ark, south of Cincinnati.
All this week we’re looking at the idea that there’s a supposed gap of millions of years between Genesis chapter one, verses one and two. Now, to argue this, people say that verse two should say, “The earth became formless and void” instead of “was formless and void.”
Now, Hebrew scholars agree that “was” is a much better translation. Verse two isn’t telling us what happened next. It’s describing the condition of the earth before God created light.
There’s no reason to add a gap. The idea doesn’t come from a careful consideration of the biblical text. It comes from trying to fit millions of years into Scripture.
We should always start with God’s Word.
