Was There a Canopy?

The last few days we’ve been looking at the idea that a canopy of water vapor once surrounded the earth. And yesterday we saw that this idea isn’t fully supported by Scripture. It’s just an interpretation of what the “waters” might have been, as mentioned on day two. But how does the canopy model do scientifically?

Well, it has some problems. The Bible tells us Adam and Eve were both naked in the beginning. So we know the “very good” earth had to have had a comfortable temperature. But a canopy would hold in heat, and this “greenhouse effect” would make the earth far too hot.

So was there a canopy? Well, probably not. And that’s OK. It’s not a major biblical or scientific issue anyway.
