From an evolutionary starting point, we’d expect our bodies to be full of leftovers from the past. But, starting with God’s Word, we know our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made. They’re marred by the Curse, of course, but we wouldn’t expect to find dozens of useless structures. And we don’t!

One example of a so-called useless structure is the “palmaris longus” muscle. This muscle stretches from your arm to your palm. It helps you flex your wrist. But about 15 percent of people don’t have one, and they get along just fine. So is this muscle useless? Not at all. It actually gives better grip strength, so while you’re fine without it, you’re better off with it.
