When you think of creation and the Garden of Eden, do you picture Adam surrounded by tigers, polar bears, jack rabbits, and other modern animals? Well, let’s look at what Scripture says.

Genesis tells us God created animals and plants to reproduce according to their kinds. Later, we’re told Noah was to take animals—according to their kinds—on the Ark.

Researchers have determined that, in most cases, kind is equivalent to family in our modern classification system. That means there was a cat kind, a bear kind, and a rabbit kind at the beginning— not all the species we have today. Species—like tigers, lions, and cougars—are the result of speciation since the Flood.
