The Bible makes it clear that the earth is only a few thousand years old. But can we know exactly how old it is?

Well, when you add up the genealogies in Genesis, you get about two thousand years from Adam to Abraham. We know Abraham lived two thousand years before Jesus, and Jesus lived two thousand years before us. This gives an age of about six thousand years.

But some Christians say the earth is ten thousand years old. To get that number you must assume there are huge gaps in the genealogies, which suggests God made mistakes in Scripture.

Instead of trying to fit a few thousand more years into history, we need to allow God’s Word to be the standard for our thinking.
