Sapphires and rubies are some of the most valuable gems found on Earth. Both are varieties of the same mineral, corundum (ke-run-dum). This mineral is made from aluminum and oxygen. It is the second hardest mineral, after diamonds.

Now, it takes special conditions to create these precious gems—and Noah’s Flood formed the perfect conditions.

During the Flood, continental plates rapidly crashed into one another. Now the intense pressure and heat transformed Flood deposits into super-hard rocks—with gems. Magma, rising from the mantle, then picked up these gems and brought them to the surface. Others were brought to where we can find them near crashing plates.

These gems remind us of Noah’s Flood.
