An ancient animal graveyard has been unearthed in Colorado! Crews from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and the Snowmass Water and Sanitation District have found the remains of 13 animals. They continue to search for more. Only a small portion of the dig site has actually been excavated.
“So far, the find has included two mammoths (with possible evidence of a third), five mastodons, two bison, one deer, one giant ground sloth, one small reptile, and one mouse-like creature.”1 Many scientists are calling the animals “prehistoric.”
Have you ever thought about what the word “prehistoric” actually means? You may have seen this word in textbooks at school. Typically, it is used to describe something that took place before recorded history. But what does the Bible say?
In Genesis 1:1–2:3, we find a written description of the Creation Week. During this week God created the heavens and the earth. God also created time. Genesis 1:5 describes the “first day.” This was the beginning of history, and we have a written record of what took place during that time. According to the Bible, nothing is prehistoric!
