Hi, my name is Grant (age:11). I have a question. Where did leviathan live? I hope you will email me as soon as possible. Thank you. Bye.
Thanks, Grant, for sending in your question. There are several Bible passages we can explore for answers. The first two passages are in the Old Testament book of Job, where God is describing the power of leviathan.
Can you fill his skin with harpoons, or his head with fishing spears? Job 41:7
He makes the deep boil like a pot; He makes the sea like a pot of ointment. He leaves a shining wake behind him; One would think the deep had white hair. Job 41:31–32
These verses certainly indicate that leviathan lived in the sea. There are several additional verses in Job 41 describing leviathan as fierce and fire-breathing. Arrows, javelins, darts, slingshots, and swords are useless against leviathan. You might enjoy reading the entire chapter!
Psalm 104 is also quite clear about where leviathan lived.
O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—this great and wide sea, in which are innumerable teeming things, living things both small and great. There the ships sail about; there is that Leviathan which You have made to play there. Psalm 104:24–26
If I were in a ship on the sea, I don’t think that I would want to see a leviathan playing nearby! Psalm 74:13–14 and Isaiah 27:1 also refer to leviathan as living in the sea.
