Did Jesus come to save his people from their sins or to overthrow the systemic oppression and injustice of the Roman government, uplift the marginalized, and redistribute wealth? Well, to answer that question . . . go read the Gospels! And then . . . NO!
What these progressives are really doing is reading their own definitions of “justice” and “equality” into the Bible.
Many progressive Christians today say that Jesus was a social justice warrior who advocated for socialism. But what these progressives are really doing is reading their own definitions of “justice” and “equality” into the Bible. They aren’t getting their worldview from the Bible, they’re reading the worldview they’ve gathered from secular humanism into the Bible. It’s eisegesis rather than exegesis.
For anyone who believes Jesus was a social justice warrior, I would urge them to go to God’s Word and read it without importing today’s definitions and socialist worldview into it. What they’ll find is that Jesus was anything but a social justice warrior.
Our Answers News team recently discussed this question with special guest Patricia Engler. I encourage you to watch the episode and share it with others.
