Tips to Convince Your Pastor to Switch to ABC

by Bryan Osborne on October 4, 2018

I hear this scenario frequently. A church member (let’s call her Jane) comes and tours the Creation Museum and hears a live presentation on the importance of Genesis and thinking foundationally. Jane picks up a copy of Ken Ham’s classic The Lie and eagerly reads it. She “gets” the message—two-thirds of young people are walking away from the church by the time they reach college age with very few returning. Why? Largely because of a lack of apologetics teaching which leads to doubting God’s Word and the Christian faith in the face of secular attacks.

This curriculum is one of the best ways to fight against the growing tide of biblical illiteracy, compromise, and doubt.

Then Jane hears about Answers Bible Curriculum (ABC), our four-year, chronological Sunday school program that’s been revolutionizing churches. It is filled with apologetics, emphasizes biblical authority, and teaches through the entire Bible in the order things actually happened, to help bring the Bible’s history to life.

This curriculum is one of the best ways to fight against the growing tide of biblical illiteracy, compromise, and doubt. Jane eagerly tells her pastor and Sunday school leader about ABC, encouraging them to switch, only to be met with polite smiles and “we’ll talk about it and get back to you.”

What can people like Jane do to help convince their church to switch to Answers Bible Curriculum?

Realizing the Need

Most pastors and other Christian leaders haven’t thought through this issue in this way. They recognize many young people are leaving the church but don’t have their finger on the problem. Until a pastor recognizes that the key issue is a lack of faith-affirming apologetics and biblical authority teaching, ABC is just a cool curriculum, so why bother switching from what has been used all along to something new?

Two-thirds of young people are indeed walking away from the church and the faith of their parents.

If you would like your church to switch to using ABC, you need to help your pastor and other leaders see the need for the curriculum.

Help them understand that two-thirds of young people are indeed walking away from the church and the faith of their parents, and that those kids are (were!) kids in your church. Beginning early in gradeschool, they are being lured away by the Genesis 3 attack of our day, “Did God really say . . . ?” ABC is our ultimate response to this pressing issue and is, we believe, the best way of equipping multiple generations, at the same time, to believe God’s Word and know how to defend its truth.

To help your pastor and other leaders see the need for this curriculum, consider:

  • Asking them to host an AiG conference at your church,
  • Showing them a relevance message (such as this one available for free on YouTube or as a DVD through our online store).
  • Giving them a copy of The Lie or Already Gone (both of these books are also available to read for free on our website).
  • Gifting them tickets to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter so they can come and visit both attractions for themselves.
  • Showing them the free month of lessons and the free holiday lessons available for them to download and try risk-free. There’s nothing like firsthand experience with the curriculum to help someone understand how unique and practical it is!

Any, or all, of these things, may help them understand the need for ABC and how it can have a dramatic impact on the church and future generations.
