And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (Luke 2:8)
Shepherds in Jesus’ day were regular people, doing their everyday job. But God took notice of them and gave them the honor of hearing firsthand the great news of the Savior!
Think of faithful people who may be overlooked in your church, such as greeters, administrative staff, custodians, and volunteers.
This December, encourage your students to notice others. Think of faithful people who may be overlooked in your church, such as greeters, administrative staff, custodians, and volunteers. Also remember others that may have difficulty getting to church due to age, illness, or winter weather.
Use your “Come On In” time to plan ways to encourage these people as important members of the church body. You could make some extra crafts as gifts, mix up some quick treats (e.g., trail mix or hot cocoa mix in a jar), create special cards, or organize a group outing to visit, sing, or help with a task. Set aside some class time to put these plans into action (maybe over the span of two or three Sundays). Aim to include the class to pass out the gifts so they can experience the blessing of giving to others.
