Pray for Persecuted Christians in Nigeria

Thousands of Christians are being murdered in the African nation of Nigeria, massacred by Islamic terrorist groups like Boko Haram. Just last month, videos emerged of Nigerian pastors standing beside mass graves which hold the remains of women and children, killed because they were followers of Christ. And this is escalating.

It’s gut-wrenching to read testimonies like this from one of our brothers in Nigeria:

You are walking, unexpected we just stumble on human skull. You are walking unexpectedly, and you stumble on human skeletons. . . . I have never thought that a day is coming where we witness a three years old baby will be slaughtered like a chicken.

This has been going on for years now with thousands of Christians dying each year. We must remember to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters, asking the Lord to hold them fast through the persecution, to help them honor him in the midst of unimaginable sorrow, and to rescue them from evil.

If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: “A servant is not greater than his master.” If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. (John 15:18–21)
