It’s March. And this month is designated as Women’s History Month in the US.
This annual commemoration specifically highlights women’s historic achievements and contributions to society and their impact on us today. It is celebrated in different countries in various months.
For example: the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom celebrate it in March; South Africa in August (as Women’s Month); and Canada in October. In addition, International Women’s Day is celebrated globally by many countries on March 8.
Well, I want to honor three women this month—women who wouldn’t be recognized by countries celebrating Women’s History Month, but women who should receive the best recognition ever.
My godly wife, Mally. What a blessing she has been to me, our children, and all who know her. She has always supported me a million percent in the ministry God called us to at Answers in Genesis. Daily, she gives counseling, wisdom, and advice to our children and grandchildren. She is the matriarch of our family and, in her quiet way, impacts so many lives. The ministry of Answers in Genesis would not exist as it is without all the sacrifice she has put in over the years.
My godly mother. She is currently celebrating her reward in heaven! What an impact she had on her children and many others throughout her almost 92 years of life. While still a teenager, she started a Sunday school to reach children for Christ. She set a godly example for her children to always put God first and be reminded that it’s only what is done for Jesus that lasts. She shared the message of Jesus with everyone she met. I have no doubt there are many in heaven now (and many who will be in the future) because of her legacy. And really, the ministry of Answers in Genesis, the Creation Museum, and the Ark Encounter are a part of her legacy, impacting millions of people each year. Now that is a woman we can honor this month.
There are many great women mentioned in the Bible, but my favorite is Queen Esther. She was prepared to risk her life to do what was right before the Lord. I love the statement her cousin and guardian Mordecai challenged her with, as well as her response: “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai,
Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish. (Esther 4:14–16)
This month, I’m encouraging us all to honor women of whom this can be said:
A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (Proverbs 31:30)
Answers in Genesis is an apologetics ministry, dedicated to helping Christians defend their faith and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
