How to Find a Good Christian College

Not all Christian colleges are created equal. Many that, in years gone by, had wonderful reputations as God-honoring colleges are on their way to becoming the Yales, Princetons, and Harvards of the future—colleges that were founded by Christians but are now temples of atheism. So how can you find a Christian college that upholds the truth of God’s Word and will build up, rather than tear down, your faith?

Well, here are three tips for choosing a Christian college:

Be very specific in the questions you ask about what they believe beginning with Genesis.
  1. Dig into the college’s statement of faith. Does the school you’re considering have a robust faith statement that gives details? Or do they just list a few core Christian beliefs? If their statement of faith doesn’t give details or is purposefully vague, that’s a warning sign. Consider reaching out to the college for more details and listen carefully to their response—sometimes what they don’t say is as important as what they do say. Be very specific in the questions you ask about what they believe beginning with Genesis.
  2. Check out the faculty. Find out who teaches at and leads the college then peruse their public social media pages to see the kinds of things they post and share. Do they boldly uphold the truth of God’s Word and speak faithfully on hard topics? Or do they compromise God’s Word or so “nuance” everything that it no longer means anything? The worldview of the men and women who will be teaching you or your child is as important as the college’s official positions.
  3. Simplify your search with creation colleges. Each year we host a free Creation College Expo at the Ark Encounter. Colleges that stand with AiG on the age of the earth and biblical authority gather in one place so students can check them out while also receiving teaching with keynotes and free admission to the Ark Encounter.

I encourage you to come to Northern Kentucky for this unique event, but if you can’t make it in person, you can see a list of participating colleges—such as our official partners: Appalachian Bible College, Bob Jones University, and Cedarville University—on our website. This simplifies your search by starting with colleges we’ve already vetted (though that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do your due diligence in vetting them too!).

College is an important choice—don’t waste four years at a school that will try to weaken your view of the authority of Scripture or the truth of God’s Word from the very first verse.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
