Three Conversations and the Connection Between Them

I recently saw this headline reporting on an event that took place during so-called “Pride Month”: “Drag queens, including anti-Catholic ‘nuns,’ march chanting, ‘we’re coming for your children.’”

Now, I’ve met many people who identify as LGBTQ over the years, and I’ve had many of them tell me that all they want is freedom for their views. But I claim most of them—particularly activists—really want total compliance and acceptance of their views by everyone. And the headline quoted above confirms that!

The first conversation:

As I’ve spoken to some LGBTQ people, they have said that Christians like me are intolerant of other views, which is hate speech. I told them that they were intolerant of my views. They then insisted that they allowed all views, but Christians don’t. I then explained to them that they didn’t allow the Christian worldview (which is built on the Bible) that there are only two genders of humans—male and female—and only one marriage, the one God created between one man and one woman. They then claimed that holding such views is intolerant of their view. But as I showed them, they are intolerant of my view built on the Bible.

God’s Word and the gospel have always been the only ultimate solution to the worldview conflict we are experiencing.

We were experiencing a clash of worldviews—and we were at an impasse. Why? One worldview was based on man’s word, and the other was based on God’s Word. And while we have different foundations for our worldviews, we cannot resolve the conflict unless we have the same foundation and build the same worldview.

It’s a reminder to Christians that, ultimately, the only resolution to the LGBTQ worldview and all other issues built on man’s word (abortion, racism, etc.) is for people to trust Christ for salvation and build their worldview on God’s Word. God’s Word and the gospel have always been the only ultimate solution to the worldview conflict we are experiencing.

A second conversation:

At one conference, I explained that the laws of nature (law of biogenesis, laws of chemistry, laws of planetary motion, laws of physics, laws of mathematics, laws of logic, uniformity of nature, universal constants, etc.) were immaterial and could not be explained by natural processes within a purely materialistic approach to the universe. Such laws can only be explained within a biblical worldview that understands that God created them. They are the logical, orderly way God upholds all things in the universe:

“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17).

“Thus says the Lord: If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth” (Jeremiah 33:25).

After I had spoken, a young man came to me and said something like, “Sir, I heard your talk, but I still think we all evolved by chance, random processes. I can believe that, right?”

I responded, “Well, if we all evolved by chance, then our brains also evolved by chance, random processes. That means our logic evolved by chance, random processes. If our logic evolved by chance, then we don’t know it evolved correctly. Son, you don’t even know if you are asking me the right questions.”

His reply? “What was the name of that book you mentioned?”

Interestingly, I’ve had some secularists claim that the laws of nature must be eternal. So, I asked them, “Could there be an eternal God then?” They immediately responded with, “No, not at all.”

Why are they unprepared to consider an eternal God? Because that would mean that God owned them because he created them, and God has the right to set the rules and determine right and wrong. People are in rebellion against God—it’s a spiritual issue.

A third conversation:

Once, at a church, I had a high school student say something like, “Sir, I believe in evolution, and I believe we have a right to set our own rules.”

I responded, “Well, do I have a right to set my own rules then?” He said, “Yes, everyone has a right to set their own rules.”

I said, “Well, what if one of my rules is that types like you are dangerous, and I believe you should be eliminated?”

He said, “Well, that’s not right.”

“Why is it not right?” I asked.

He said, “Well, it’s wrong.”

I said, “Why is it wrong?”

He said, “Well, it’s not right.”

Secularists cannot be consistent with their worldview of moral relativism. Without absolute authority, anything goes, and it would lead to the collapse of society. Sadly, we’re seeing generations who mostly believe there is no God and that man is his own authority. And when man is his own authority, anything goes except the absolutes of Christianity. Secularists become intolerant of Christianity as the Christian worldview is built on the absolute authority of God’s Word, and thus God determines right and wrong!

These three conversations—and so many more that I have had over the years—remind me of the way our culture is heading. I think these verses summarize the cultural direction well:

“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. (Romans 1:19–25)

Yes, our culture is steeped in moral relativism, rejecting God as the Creator and therefore, as the ultimate authority. And the answer to this is the saving gospel! We want to see people saved for eternity and see them build their thinking on God’s Word.

Yes, we need families who stand on God’s Word to raise generations who will also stand on God’s Word and make an impact for Christ in our godless age.
