Associated Press: “Trans Minors Protected from Parents”

I echo the news site Not the Bee when I write, that, yes, this is a real headline from the Associated Press. They really titled their article (reporting on a bill recently passed in Washington state) “Trans minors protected from parents under Washington law.” And I have a screenshot to prove it.

Trans minors protected from parents under Washington law

Here’s how the article begins:

Minors seeking gender-affirming care in Washington will be protected from the intervention of estranged parents under a measure Gov. Jay Inslee signed into law Tuesday . . .

Licensed shelters and host homes in Washington had generally been required to notify parents within 72 hours when a minor came into their care. Under the new law, facilities can instead contact the state Department of Children, Youth and Families, which could then attempt to reunify the family if feasible. Youths will also be allowed to stay at host homes — private, volunteer homes that temporarily house young people without parental permission.

Parents are increasingly being treated as the enemy.

Let that sink in. “Trans minors protected from parents” and “minors . . . protected from the intervention of estranged parents.” Yes, parents are increasingly being treated as the enemy—parents who might try to protect their naive, brainwashed, indoctrinated children and teens from

  • taking dangerous puberty blockers with a whole host of damaging side effects,
  • taking irreversible hormone replacement drugs that will render them sterile,
  • and undergoing body-mutilating surgeries to remove perfectly healthy body parts.

Those parents—not the activists pushing this on every child from preschool and up—are the “bad guys” from whom children need “protection.” How utterly wicked! Who would have thought even five years ago we would see such circumstances? The culture catastrophically plunges into increasing depths of depravity.

Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20)

Our culture increasingly sees children as belonging to the government, to the public schools, and to their communities—not as being given to their parents by God. Parents have a God-given job to gently, graciously, and lovingly train their children in the way they should go—in the training and admonition of the Lord. They have the duty to protect their children from wolves who would devour them with false ideologies. Parents are the first line of defense against those who would hurt their children. And that’s exactly why activists (and, ultimately, our enemy Satan) want parents viewed with suspicion and painted as the “bad guys.”

Parents, more than ever, need to step up and be proactive in protecting their children from the lies of the enemy.

Parents, more than ever, need to step up and be proactive in protecting their children from the lies of the enemy. And this starts with teaching them the truth of God’s very good design for them as either a boy or a girl (moms and daughters can learn more about this at our 2024 Answers for Women conference, Reclaim: Overcoming the War on Women for the Glory of God, weekday conference now open for registration). In a recent blog post, I highlighted seven ways parents can protect their children. I encourage you to read that post.

Oh, and I’m excited to announce that we have two new children’s books coming to help parents celebrate with their children the goodness of being a boy or the goodness of being a girl. These titles are already available in Spanish (written by AiG–Latin America director Joe Owen and his daughter, Abby Owen) and will be coming in English soon (you can sign up for our Answers Bookstore “Discounts and Deals” emails to be alerted when those are available).

Parents, don’t let the government scare, shame, or indoctrinate you into rejecting your God-given role to protect, shepherd, and disciple your children. God has given them to you and has given you his Word and his Spirit to help you, even when it’s hard.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
