As an employee of a Christian ministry, I think many people believe that it’s easy for me to serve God because I get paid every day to come to work and write, speak, and research in ways that uphold the authority of God’s Word. I do love my job (which I also consider a ministry) and I know I am fortunate to work for a Christian organization that doesn’t compromise on God’s truth. However, it’s very easy to get so busy in the “doing” that I lose sight of the reason for the “doing.”
I have three events coming up this week and next, and I’m constantly writing to-do lists—my brain is in high gear keeping up with all the details. I feel like I’m one of those weather reporters on the beach when a hurricane has hit land. So I decided I needed to get to the eye of the hurricane where there is peace and focus on the reason for all this busyness. I was perusing some hymn titles and this one jumped out at me. I hope it will bring you some much needed peace today too.
All That Thrills My Soul is Jesus By: Thoro HarrisVerse 1:
Who can cheer the heart like Jesus, By His presence all divine? True and tender, pure and precious, O how blest to call Him mine!
Refrain:
All that thrills my soul is Jesus; He is more than life to me; And the fairest of ten thousand In my blessed Lord I see.
Verses 2–5:
Love of Christ so freely given, Grace of God beyond degree, Mercy higher than the heaven, Deeper than the deepest sea!
What a wonderful redemption! Never can a mortal know How my sin, tho' red like crimson, Can be whiter than the snow.
Ev'ry need His hand supplying, Ev'ry good in Him I see; On His strength divine relying, He is all in all to me.
By the crystal flowing river With the ransomed I will sing, And forever and forever Praise and glorify the King.
